Step Ten of Ten

Follow Up

Following up after submitting your application is an important step in the fundraising process. Start by confirming that the funder has received your application. If you submitted electronically, look for a confirmation email or receipt. If you posted your application, consider following up with a phone call or email to ensure it was received. The ‘task management' function built into Grant Genie can help to prompt you to do this.

Maintain communication with the funder for any updates or additional information they may need. Some funders might request supplementary materials or clarification on certain aspects of your proposal. Be prompt and professional in your responses, demonstrating your organisation’s readiness and responsiveness.

If your application is successful, promptly acknowledge the grant and express your gratitude. Send a formal thank-you letter to the funder, acknowledging their support and outlining the impact their funding will have on your project. This helps to establish a positive relationship and can be beneficial for future funding opportunities.

If your application is unsuccessful, request feedback from the funder. Understanding why your proposal was not selected can provide valuable insights for improving future applications. Use this feedback to refine your approach and address any weaknesses in your proposal.

Stay engaged with the funder even if you did not receive funding this time. Building a relationship with funders can open doors for future opportunities. Keep them updated on your organisation’s progress and successes, and consider applying for future funding cycles.

Following up demonstrates your organisation’s professionalism and commitment to maintaining a positive relationship with funders. It also provides an opportunity to learn and improve, increasing your chances of success in future fundraising efforts.
